i
Alfred Kroger
Page .2
depth to groundwater at this site was measured to be about 20
feet below grade (a rise of about 7 feet, since December 1994) .
In September 1995, when the excavating was performed water should
+ have been entering the hole when a depth', of 20 feet was reached.
There was a strong petroleum odor to the'„ soil to the bottom of
the excavation which was about 32 to 33 feet deep. It was not
until the second day of the excavating that groundwater appeared
in the bottom of the excavation. This confirmed that the clayey
and silty soil was of low permeability and not conducive to other
remedial alternatives .
In reference to the solvents at this site . One of the six tanks
that were located in the tank pit was a 1000 gallon stoddard
solvent tank. Information I have reviewed, including our Local
Oversight Program contract with SWRCB defines stoddard solvent as
a petroleum based substance so cleanup costs associated with
contamination from that tank should be reimbursable.
If you have any questions contact me at '(209) 468-3449 .
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, Lead Senior REHS
Site Mitigation Unit
c : Neumiller & Beardslee - Brooke Birke Esq.
c : SWRCB Cleanup Fund - Nancy Callsen
P.O.
