Each boring was drilled with 8-inch hollow-stiom eugers advanced to
approximately 20 to 30 feet.
Undisturbed soil ssmp'les were obtained using the Dame:i & Moore Type-U
sampler driven by a 140-pound hammer falling 30 inches. Samples were collected
from the borings at min .mum iutervals of five feet. The clean sample: was driven
into the soil ben3ath <-he open borehole. The. soil samples retained in the 3-
inch stainless steel tubes were removed from the sampler and their ends sealed
with Teflon membranes and plastic end caps. Each sample selected for chemical
analysis was secr.rely sealed, labeled and stored in ice-cooled containers and
delivered to BC Laboratories under chair.-of-csstody . All samples were logged.
according to the unified Soil Classification Systnm (Flate A-8).
To preswat esC,:;s-contamination of samplOP, the sampling
- equipment was disr..ssemhled between sampling attempts and washed with atri-sodium
phospltinte (TSP) soap solution and thoroughly rinsed with clel,onized water. The
samplers were then reassembled with clean 3-inch stainle_s steel tubes and used ;
for sul)sequcnt sampling. All augers rnd sampling equipment: were thoroughly
steam-cleaned between borings to prevent cross-contamination.
MONITORING WELL INSTAI.IATION
Two groundwater monitoring wells were installed at the cacility. The wolfs
were installed for water lei,el monitoring and groundwater sampling purposes.
T;.e following procedures Frere used for observation well installation:
r. a A 10-inch diRmeter bcrehule was advanced and sampled to the
appropriate depth using hollow-stem auger drilling techniques;
SAC43.001 November 1909
1
