The purpose of <br /> this study is to further investigate the extent of the hydrocarbon <br /> plume in the soil, and grc�lnd water below the site. The Phase II <br /> Site Investigation will include the installation of soil borings <br /> and monitoring welts at four locations based on the results of the <br /> Friase 1 Site Investigation and a soil gas survey conducted at the <br /> site. <br /> L.2 BACKGROUND <br /> The Holt Brothers Tractor Company is a farm equipment <br /> dealership located in Stockton, California (Figure 1) . Activities <br /> conducted at this facility include the maintenance and repair of <br /> farm equipment. seven underground storage tanks (USTs) used for <br /> storing hydraulic oil., solvents oils waste oil <br /> diesel fuel were also included within this facility. gasoline and <br /> The Holt Brothers site is located in the northern end ov the <br /> San Joaquin Valley. This valley, along with its northern <br /> counterpart, the Sacramento Valley, forms the Great Valley <br /> geomorphic province. The Great Valley is a north-south elongated <br /> structural trough filled with sediment deri7red from both marine <br /> and continental sources. The continental ly-derived sedimentary <br /> deposits comprise the upper portion of the valley fill, and were <br /> deposited in fluvial, alluvial, and lacustrine environments. <br /> Sources of the sediment were the Sierra Nevada to the east and the <br /> Coast Range to the west. <br /> The soils underlying Holt Brothers Tractor Company are <br /> comprised mainly of interbedded and interfingering clay, silts, <br /> and ,fine grain sands. These are flood basin deposits which were <br /> deposited in low-lying areas adjacent to streams during periods of <br /> fiaoding. Infiltration and permeability rates tend to be low due <br /> to the relatively fine grain size of the interfingered clays and <br /> silts. <br /> LD01.054 <br />
