Bioremediation Pilot Test Results 5 - 3.June 1994
Geweke
Observations and Comments:
1. Table showing the wells used in the Pilot Study, whether bacteria and air were added, and
any notable trends in O, and CO, concentrations.
Added Concentration Trend
Well No. Air Bacteria OZ CO2
VWI + Decrease Increase
VW2, VW3, Decrease Increase
VW7, MW1,
MW3
VW4, VW5, + + No observable No observable
VW6, MW4 trends trends
MW5, MW14 + No observable No observable
trends trends
2. The addition of air appears to interfere with monitoring 02 and CO2 concentrations.
3. In the wells without added air, CO2 concentration went up and 02 concentration went down,
whether bacteria were added or not. Therefore, either, the addition of bacteria did not affect
02 and CO2 concentrations and the trends are the result of some conditions we are not aware
of, or the inoculated bacteria caused the changes in both inoculated and uninoculated wells.
It is not possible, with the available data, to determine which is the case.
MONTHLY MONITORING REPORT - 11 MARCH 1994
The data from the Tables 1 through 6 was repeated in the tables sent by FAX in May.
TABLE 7: ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLE - Microbial County and Species
Diversity
These analyses were conducted on soil samples from the first soil boring drilled at the end of
February.
Observations and Comments:
1. A microbial count for the first boring was provided - total numbers and number of species.
2. A table containing the number of bacteria species present, total number of bacteria in the
population, and whether the soil was sand or silt, was provided for the first boring. The table
shows consistently higher bacterial counts in silt than in sand.
3. Species of bacteria were not provided.
4. This table does not appear to tie in with the other data.
