(AGE). The Report recommends the implementation
of the six-month ozone injection pilot study(Pilot Study). hl phone conversations with me on
4 and 8 November 2004, AGE said that the Pilot Study had been initiated as approved by my Letter of
29 December 2003, after the 13-14 April 2004 ozone sparge wells installation. At that time,I verbally
requested additional monitoring for metals and general minerals for the Pilot Study, in order to evaluate
the need for Waste Discharge Requirements for a full-scale ozone injection remediation system. In
response to AGE's request for additional direction on 16 November 2004, my email of 17 November
2004 specified the following additional analyses for groundwater:
• CAM 17 metals and Chromium 6+, and
• General Minerals suite (including sulfate, nitrate, etc.).
Detection limits of all analytes shall be comparable to (at or below) the Water Quality Goals, which can
be downloaded from the Regional Board web site at:
httn //www.swreb.ca..Rov/rwqcb5/available documents/index html#WaterOualityGoals. Results of the
additional sampling will be included in subsequent quarterly monitoring reports and the Pilot Study
report. If Chromium 6+ or any conditions harmful to Water Quality are detected, you are directed to
suspend the Pilot Study until such time Regional Board staff and AGE determine the appropriate
response to the problem.
If you have any questions please contact me at(916) 464-4615 or bartoninsb5s swrcb.ca.gov.
James L.
