27 May 1992
(GeoAudit MDC Ukiah-1. 9)
PHASE II EXCAVATION
An additional 100 cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated
on 1 April 1992 . The soil was removed along the western portion of
the excavation (Figure 3) , where the underground tanks were
reportedly located.
The sampling and analytical protocol were the same as previously
described.
PHASE III EXCAVATION
An additional 150 cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated
on 29 April 1992 . The soil was removed from the north and west
portions of the excavation (Figure 3) .
I
The sampling and analytical protocol were the same as previously
described.
All excavated soil was transferred to- two treatment cells in the
south and west portion of the property.
FINDINGS
Very moist to saturated conditions were encountered at a depth of
10 - 11 feet during excavation.
Samples from the east wall of the excavation (EW-0 to EW-120)
showed TPH at levels ranging up to 160 µg/g. TPH contamination was
detected at 750 gg/g in sample EW-50. Benzene was not detected in
any of the samples. Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected
at levels ranging up to 6 Ag/g in all samples except EW-50. Sample
EW-50 showed significantly higher levels of these constituents
(toluene at 1. 3 µg/g; ethylbenzene at 8 pg/g; xylenes at 28 gg/g) .
In the southwest portion of the excavation TPH was detected in
samples SW-20 and SW-30 (30 µg/g and 7 . 2 µg/g, respectively) .
Benzene was detected in samples SW-40 (0. 006 gg/g) and SW-50
(0. 0061 Ag/g) . During the second phase of excavation, this area was
resampled (sample WW-2) and benzene was not detected in this
sample. Toluene was detected in three samples (SW-20, SW-40, SW-50)
at levels ranging up to 0. 12 µg/g. Ethylbenzene was detected only
. in sample SW-20 (0. 18 µg/g) . Xylenes were detected in Samples SW-
20, SW-40 and SW-50 at levels up to 0.77 gg/g
C
In the northern portion of the excavation, TPH as gasoline was
detected along the property line in samples NW-10 and NW-20 at 420
