QUARTERLY REPORT
Geweke Land Development & Marketing
16 South Cherokee Lane
Lodi, California
March 1994
1.0 INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr. Mark Geweke of Geweke Land Development & Marketing (GLDM),
and in accordance with Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 93-701, Geological Audit
Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has prepared this Quarterly Report of activities at 16 South
Cherokee Lane in Lodi, California.
I2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 Problem Assessment
Figure 1 shows the location of the site. Evidence of an unauthorized release of gasoline
from underground fuel storage tanks (UST's) was encountered during the removal of three
UST's from this site in 1985. Several environmental firms have been involved in the
subsequent assessment of this release. The impact of this release on the vadose and
saturated zones was initially investigated by J.H. Kleinfelder, Inc. (Kleinfelder) in the latter
portion of 1985. Between 1986 and 1990, Brown and Caldwell Consultants (BCC) performed
additional field investigations. Field work was performed by PES Environmental in 1991, and
in July of that year, PES submitted a Problem Assessment Report (PAR) that summarized
all previous investigations and proposed remedial alternatives.
The PAR became the basis for a Final Remediation Plan (FRP), which was submitted by
GeoAudit in January 1992. The FRP focused primarily on a discussion of recommended
methods for soil and groundwater remediation. No additional field work was performed, and
new data on vadose-zone contamination were not generated.
The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) and San Joaquin
County Public Health Services -Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) found the FRP
inadequate for several reasons, including the absence of maps and cross sections depicting
vadose zone contamination. Therefore, GeoAudit submitted additional information in July
1992, but was unable to respond to all Board questions without collection of additional data.
0-bi—I Adie S—k' I.. 1
IJ3/4.9W lDM QR1
r
I
