s
Mr. Kevin McKibben
Advanced GeoEnvironmental (North)
GLDM
July 1, 1997
Page 2
COMMENT
Please note that microbial concentrations associated with these samples, in general, are below
those considered acceptable for active, ongoing biodegradation of contaminant. Aside from
associated relatively low levels of available nitrogen and marginal hydration percentages, there
may additionally be some biotoxicity associated with localized high levels of hydrocarbon.
Though there has been approximately eight months since the previous soil analyses for this
site, only minor physicochemical and microbiological changes have occurred, and there is no
indication of significant levels of microbial-based biodegradation of contaminants. Under such
. circumstances, there is little evidence to support a belief that natural bioattenuation of
contaminants will occur at appreciable levels. You may wish to consider addressing the soils
contamination with a somewhat more aggressive bioremedial approach, as the addition of
selected nutrients, as well as improved hydration will be required for appropriate metabolic
activity. Enhanced activity, in addition, will likely be achieved through the addition of
subsurface oxygen, either via air injection and/or hydrogen peroxide, in conjunction with
nutrient and water supplementation.
Should you have any questions concerning this information, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
AKK:ch
