Harlin Knoll [EH] —
From: Munn,Julie [Julie.D.Munn@arcadis-us.com]
Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 3:09 PM
To: Harlin Knoll [EH] dGcc c'
Subject: Former ARCO Station 6100, Tracy
Hi Harlin —
I just tried giving you a call, but figured I would let you know what was up via email and then you can
give me a call when you get a chance.
We were out installing the air sparge well at 25775 S. Patterson Pass Road in Tracy last week and
ended up being too close to VW-17. During drilling, the geologist noticed pieces of pea gravel and well
screen in the sampler at approximately 90 feet. They finished drilling well AS-1 anyway, and then when
they went to set the well and pull up the augers, the casing for AS-1 came with it. The well had to be
abandoned at that point. Well VW-17 was tagged at 90' bgs (instead of the 103 feet it should be), so it
seems they definitely hit the well and filled it with grout to approximately 90 feet bgs.
Now the question is how to proceed. We have scheduled the installation of AS-1 again for next
Wednesday and would also like to properly abandon well VW-17 while we are there. Is there any
chance we can add on the destruction of VW-17 via pressure grouting and over drilling the top 5 feet to
the existing permit or would we need an additional permit?
Please give me a call at your earliest convenience.
Thank you,
Julie D.
