0
September 19, 1991
ARCO Station No. 6100, Tracy, California
4. Drill cuttings from the proposed onsite borings will be placed on plastic and covered
with plastic. The tentative location for the stockpiled soil is shown on Plate 2. Four
soil samples will be collected for each 50-cubic yards of stockpiled soil and
composited by the laboratory for analysis as one sample. The composited sample
will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline using EPA preparation
Method 5030 with modified Method 8015, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylene isomers using EPA Method 8020, and for total lead using EPA Method 7421.
The results of the laboratory analysis will be presented to ARCO's contractors to
evaluate disposal options. The drill cuttings remain the responsibility of ARCO.
5. One soil sample from the bottom of each boring will be submitted for laboratory
analyses to delineate the vertical extent of hydrocarbons in soil. Two samples from
each boring will be selected for laboratory analysis according to field evidence of
hydrocarbons. One of these two samples will be used to provide an indication of the
highest concentration of residual hydrocarbons remaining in the soil, and the other
sample will be used to delineate the upper boundary of hydrocarbons in the soil at
each boring, if possible.
6. Soil samples collected for possible chemical analysis will be promptly sealed with
aluminum foil, plastic caps, and tape. They will then be labeled and placed in iced
storage to be maintained at 4 degrees centigrade for transport to the analytical
laboratory. A Chain of Custody Record will be initiated by the field geologist and
will accompany the soil samples to the laboratory.
7. After issuance of the permit to drill, we will contact San Joaquin County Public
Health Services with 48 hours notice prior to work at the site.
The additional work will be performed in accordance with the Tri-Regional Board Staff
Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Tank Sites
(California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, 1989); Appendix
A to that document (August 1990); and the Leaking Underground Fuel Tank Manual
(California Leaking Underground Fuel Tank Task Force, 1989). The Site Mitigation
Acknowledgement/ Request For Services Form is included in attachments to this work plan.
0909mlag 2
30041-2W
