The
Generalized Site Plan (Plate P-2) shows the approximate locations
of present and former site features.
A geologist from Applied GeoSystems visited the site on September
' 7, 1988, to observe removal of the waste-oil tank; subjectively
evaluate soil at the bottom of the tank cavity for the presence
of hydro,:arbon contamination; collect a sample of native soil
from the bottom of the tank cavity; and observe additional
excavation of the waste-oil tank cavity, if necessary (AGS Report
No. 38048-1,, dated November 2, 1988) . Tom Mehringer Construction
_. of Red Bluff, California, removed the tank and excavated soil
from the tank cavity with a backhoe. Following removal of the
tank, the Applied GeoSystems geologis-: noted evidence of soil
contamination at the base cf the tank cavity, including
discernible hydrocarbon odor and visible discoloration of native
soil. Additional excavation was undertaken to remove visib y
contaminated soil. After approximately 4 to 5 cubic yardr, of
t contaminated soil were removed, Applied GeoSystems was directed
by Mr. Harlin Knoll of the San Joaquin Local Health District
(SJLIID) to cease excavation. At that time, visibly contaminated
soil remained at the bottom and in the walls of the cavity. Mr.
Knoll indicated that a soil-remediation work plan would be
a
2
AjoP 1sd GLOO ystemis __
