The Modesto Formation dips gently to the west <br /> (Ca'-ifornia Division of Mines and Geology, 1966) . <br /> The site is located in the Eastern San Joaquin county Ground- <br /> water Basin, which has a regional ground-water gradient to the <br /> southwest (California Department of Water Resources, 1980) . The <br /> ground-water basin has been developed for intensive irrigation, <br /> domestic, industrial, municipal, and stock use. <br /> i <br /> The local',surface drainage includes the Mokelumne River and the <br /> South Main Canal. The Mokelumne River drains to the west <br /> approximately 1 mile north of the City of nodi.
