Box 5811
i San Mateo. California 944M.
Subject: Addendum to Work Plan for a Subsurface Investigation at ARCO Service
Station No.760, 225 South Cherokee Lane, Lodi, California_
Mr. Carmel:
e nest of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), Applied GeoSystems, Inc.
Atthe r q
(Applied GeoSystems) is submitting an addendum to our previous work plan No.38048-
t 3W, dated April 23. 1990. Additional work includes drilling three sail borings, instilling
t three vaporextractson weils in the borings, and performing a vapor-extraction test. ',The
purpose of the additional work is to evaluate whether remediation of hydrocarbons in
native soil underlying the.site is feasible by vapor extraction. The data Ail be used to
evaluate remedial alternatives for soil in subsequent phases of work, if wai;ranted.
ARCO Service Station No.760 is located on the northwest corner of South Cherokee
Lane and Lodi Avenue in Lodi, California, as shown on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate P-
1).
Applied GeoSystems was at the site in May 1990 to observe drilling of three soil borings
nn B•1 through H-3 We returned to the site in
near the former waste-oil cavity(borings gh )•
October 1990 to observe the drilling of five additional soil borings (13-4 through B-8)
near the iE"xisting and proposed gasoline t--nk cavity. Locations of borings B-1 through B-
8 are shotvn on the Generalized Site Plan(Plate P-2). Results of the October 1990
investigation indicated residual gasoline hydrocarbons were not present in the sail
around the perimeter.of the existing tank cavity or near the proposed tank cavity in
concentrations that warrant remediation. However, hydrocarbons may be present in soil. .
-storage tanks at concentrations requ::ing
underlying the existing underground
remediation.
1
