meg. a
® -
t
Lambert Barnum
November 24, 1990
Page 3
process. As contaminated soil was removed from the hole by the rotating action of the
auger flyte, soil was smeared against the side wall of the boring. Because of the depth of
sample collection, only limited lateral pressure could be used to obtain a `clean" soil
sample from the side wall of the borings. As a result, contaminated soil brought to the
near surface by the angering process was unavoidably included in each of the auger;
samples. The analytical results presented in Table 1 should therefore be considered as
maximum values. Since the initial oil and grease concentration found in the side wall of
the former excavation was 19,900 mg/kg; it is reasonable to argue that the majority of the
t contaminated material has now been removed and that the minor amount of contamination
remaining poses a threat to neither the local groundwater nor to public health. As a result
Murray&Associates concludes that no further remediation work needs to be accomplished r
at the site, and that the cost associated with additional remedial work would far exceed the
incremental environmental health benefits achieved, i
Table 1
Analytical Results -Snit Samples
TP11 Oil and
Collection diene[ Benzene Toluene Ethyl Benzene Xylene Grease
$orines No. Depth m /k {ueR¢l Suell:zl uPJFc¢1 fuel}¢) (a¢/kx)
AH-1 7 feet _ ND-- ND ND 5 630
Ali 2 7 feet ND ND ND 19 320
AH-3 7 feet — ND ND 22
110 690
rLH 4 7 feet ND ND 37 190 300
5 7 feet — NDAM
4 12 63 48. f..
SS 1' — 20 ND
— 590
j
'Coomposited sample
"Not detected.
Water r Wells
The analytical results of the water samples collected from the three monitoring wells were
-----not-available-far-inclusion-in this-report These-analyses will or
-be fwarded to the San
Joaquin County Department of Health as soon as they become available.
