%40 11*04
The property is located on Cherokee Road, about 1/2 mile
southwest of Highway 99, and a short distance west of the
Stockton Diverting Canal . See PLATS I for details .
GEOLOGIC & GEOMORPHIC PROVINCE:
The site is located in the southern portion of what is commonly
referred to as the Sacramento Valley, which is the northern
portion of the Great Valley of California. Sediments consist of
upwards of 20, 000 feet of sands, silts, & clays ranging in age
from recent to Upper Cretaceous & possibly older. These
sediments have been derived primarily from outwash & erosion of
the Sierra Nevada Batholith to the east . Drainage is to the
southwest at about 5 ' /mile. PLATE II, from a portion of the
Stockton West quadrangle published by the USGS, shows more
details of the area.
SOIL TYPE:
Soils in the area are classified as Stockton Adobe clay by the
University of California Agricultural Extension. It is derived
from outwash from basic igneous sources, (Sierra Nevada
Batholith, ) generally has imperfect drainage, with hardpan
subsoil layers underlain with unconsolidated material . It is
usually dark grey to tan to brown, with a Storie Index of 28 .
PLATE III is from that University of California publicaton.
DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER:
Groundwater was measured at about 80' bgl based upon the Fall,
1994 map issued by the San Joaqun County Flood Control District .
Based on other more recent data, water levels may have risen 5 '
or more in this area. The highest levels measured during the
last 15 years was during the Spring of 1983 & 1986; between 45 ' &
47 ' below ground surface.
BRIEF REVIEW OF PRIOR WORK:
December, 1989 - two (2) 8, 000 gallon gasoline UST' s & associated
product lines were removed from the property. Soil samples
revealed very minor amounts of xylene; refer to EXHIBIT A for
copies of those analyses .
March 15, 1995 - San Joaquin County EHD notified owner that
additional investigative work would be required in order to
obtain site closure; (refer to EXHIBIT B for a copy of that
correspondence. )
2
