tr
20 December 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0312
LW Page 2 of 7
} 3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on the results of laboratory analysis of soil samples collected during removal of the USTs and
* previous site assessment activities and historical fluctuation in ground water elevation, the PHS-
IM EHD is requiring additional assessment to determine the lateral and vertical extent of hydrocarbon-
impacted soil and ground water.
AGE proposes a"phased"investigation for the property. The initial phase of work will include the
advancement and sampling of four soil borings and the installation of one ground water monitoring
well. A second phase will include the installation of approximately 12 additional soil borings.
Additional investigation and, if necessary, remediation, will be addressed in a subsequent work plan
addendum. Tasks for the investigation of the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons at the site are
described below.
Iv 3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. Prior to mobilization, the
tL. soil boring locations will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground
Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
LW Initially, AGE proposes to advance ou soil borings in the vicinity of the former USTs and fuel
dispenser islands. One boring will be advanced near the former 2,000-gallon gasoline UST; one
boring will be advanced near the former fourth dispenser island; one boring will be advanced at tree
former UST cluster location; and one boring vgill be advanced approximately 30 feet north of the
former UST cluster location. Additional borings will subsequently be advanced as described in
Section 3.5., based upon the initial investigation. Proposed boring locations are illustrated in Figure
2.
The four initial borings are proposed to be advanced to 100 feet bsg, however, total depths of the
borings will be based on field observations and field screening using an organic vapor monitor
' equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID) precalibrated to isobutylene. Soil samples will be
collected from each boring at five-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg at the former dispenser island
location and begirming at a depth of 15 feet bsg in the remaining three borings. Field procedures for
advancement of borings and collection of soil samples are presented in Section 4.1. and 4.2.
Lw
Lw
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
t4r
