29 October 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0312
cell. The PVC casing will allow future connection to a low pressure blower for the addition of
supplemental oxygen to aid bioremediation. The treatment area will be covered with plastic sheeting
to limit the infiltration of rain water and enhance bioremediation. Periodic sampling of the treated
soil will be performed to monitor and maintain the remediation progress. The bioremediation system
will be adjusted as much as feasible to optimized the bioremediation rate. After remediation is
complete, the soil will be left in-place.
2.3. SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURES
All soil samples will be collected in precleaned 2- by 3-inch brass sleeves. The ends of the brass
sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each sample
sleeve will be labeled and logged on a chain-of-custody form. The samples will be placed in a chilled
container and transported to a state-certified laboratory for analysis.
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox.
Samples will initially be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g)
and diesel (TPH-d) 1n accordance with EPA methods 8015111/5030 and for volatile aromatics
(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTE&X) with oxygenates in accordance with EPA
methods 8020 and 8260, respectively. Analyses may be deleted from the sampling program based
upon laboratory results from progress sampling.
Samples collected for soil bioremediation may also be analyzed for physicocliemical properties and
bioenumeration.
Laboratory reports of soil sample analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality
control (QA/QC) reports, and sample cliaiii-of custody documentation will be presented in quarterly
reports with the findings and recommendations.
3.0. PROCEDURES
3.1. BACKFILLING OF EXCAVATION
For backfilling of the excavation, the following procedures will be performed:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
