Cherokee Rd
Stockton, CA 95205
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) has recently received a
request to discontinue pumping activities at UST-1. Based on a review of the results and the efforts expending
to date, PHS-EHD approves the request.
The Technical Review Committee (TRC) also reviewed this site and has concluded that USIA is not providing
the most accurate data from the groundwater in that area. Due to a considerable recharge to the groundwater
beneath your site, the depth to water (DTW) in the area of UST-1 has risen to greater than fifteen feet (15')
above the screened interval of the well casing.
With decreased concentrations of Total Petroleum as Diesel (TPH-D) reported in UST-1 since the DTW has risen
above the screen interval, PHS-EHD and the TRC are concerned that the lighter than water constituents are not
being allowed to enter the well casing for sampling.. Added to this is the concern that a thirty-five foot plus
(35'+) column of water acts to dilute the concentrations of TPH-D and does not accurately represent the
groundwater conditions below the site.
i
Groundwater analyses from the recently placed monitoring wells UST-2, UST-3, and UST-4 indicate that the
groundwater in the lateral areas has not been impacted by the contamination already documented in the USIA
area.
Based on this limited area of impact to the groundwater, PHS-EHD will need to re-evaluate the impact around
UST-1. In order to accomplish this, PHS-EHD will require you to install a new monitoring well very close to
UST-1. The construction details of this well should be included in a workplan that is to be submitted to PHS-
EHD for review. An adequate number of soil samples should be collected during well construction and analyzed
so that vertical-extent conclusions can be supported.
I
Please direct your submittals or any questions you may have to Michael Infurna at(209) 468-3454.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Envir ental Health Division
Michael Infuma, Senior REHS Diane M.
