I
P
r:\pr0jCCt5\5M\tyinv.rcp
Ea
t 1.0 INTRODUCINTON
!,.a 1.1 Site Description i
1 The subject site, referred to as the Thaanas Yard, is a small trucking terminal yard located
at 3437 Newton Road, Stockton (Figur,. 1 - Site Plan). The yard is a separately leased
i portion of the several acre Delta Truck Sales property which includes truck sales, fueling,
kA and repair facilities bounded by Newton Road, Cherokee Road, and California State
}.. Highway 99. The Thomas Yard itself consists of a fenced, partially asphalt paved area
a
approximately 100 by 200 feet. There is a garage-type building on the site with roll-up
doors on either side and several offices. Next to the building is an open excavation
surrounded by ferning where two underground sterage tanks and piping were removed in
January 1989. Approximately 300 cubic yards of material consisting of backfill and native
soil was removed during the tank excavation and stockpiled on site on plastic.
Greand water levels in nearby monitoring wells show that the.water table in this area is at
a depth of approximately 85 &M.
``4 1.2 Objective and Scope of Work
This investigation was prompted by the San Joaquin County Department of Public Health
J
A Services and Delta Truck Sales when hydrocarbons were reported in soil samples taken in
uJanuary 1989 from native soil beneath the former underground tank locations. The
objectives of this project,as outlined in ESE's approved work plan to San Joaquin County
dated October 8, 1990 are to:
1) Assess the vertical and lateral extent of soil containing hydrocarbons beneath the
building adjacent to the former tank excavation by drilling and sampling soil borings
2) Deepen and expand the excavation(overexcavate)to remove as much of this soil
kR as possible, without affecting the building.
