Box 960001 <br /> Stockton, CA 95296-0002 <br /> Dear Colonel LaBounty: <br /> I recently received a copy of an August 24, 1992 letter <br /> from Ron Valinoti, Director, Environmental Health Division, San <br /> Joaquin County Public Health Services, addressed to Marshall <br /> Cloud, Office of Environmental Protection, Defense Distribution <br /> Region West-Tracy, in which Mr. Valinoti indicates that <br /> DDRW-Tracy has not conducted a well survey nor scheduled a <br /> public meeting to inform the community about the status of <br /> groundwater contamination caused by your agency. <br /> It is my understanding that in a November 20, 1991 letter <br /> to DDRW-Tracy, the county's public health department indicated <br /> their concern with the confirmation of contamination in <br /> off-site domestic drinking water wells. " Since that time I am <br /> told the two off-site residences whose wells were found to be <br /> contaminated were supplied with bottled. water by the DDRW- <br /> Tracy. <br /> However, according to Mr. Valinoti, the distribution <br /> center has not followed up on the county's 1991 recommendation <br /> that another well survey be undertaken to find out if any <br /> additional off-site wells have been affected by the <br /> distribution center' s sources of contamination. <br /> Because I believe the public has a right to know the most <br /> accurate and up-to-date information available on the extent of <br /> contamination that could affect their domestic drinking water, <br /> I strongly urge you to do the recommended well survey within a <br /> mile radius including sampling of identified wells along Banta <br /> Road, and schedule a community awareness forum on this topic as <br /> soon as possible. <br />
