Banta Road, Tracy
RE: DEFENSE DISTRIBUTION REGION WEST TRACY (DDRWT)
OFF-SITE CONTAMINATION OF DOMESTIC WELLS
on November 18, 1991, members of my staff notified you of the
confirmation sampling results and made recommendation that you
discontinue usage of your domestic wells for drinking purposes.
Attached you will find a copy of the letter this agency has written
to the Defense Distribution Region West - Tracy making
recommendations that a well survey within a 1 mile radius be
performed. We believe these identified wells may be concentrated
on the easterly boundary along Banta Road, and that these wells be
included in the next quarterly sampling schedule. Should
additional sampling detect the presence of volatile organic
contaminants, we recommended that the DDRWT be prepared to provide
bottled water to those affected.
Additionally, it would be in the DDRWT's best interest to conduct
a community awareness forum to inform the residents of the well
survey and planned off-site sampling. This community awareness
forum should be done within the next 30 days.
Should the DDRWT fail to respond within the next 30 days, our
agency will contact the agencies involved with the remediation
project (i.e. , US-EPA, Region IX and Cal-EPA Branches of: Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board and Department of Toxic
Substances Control) and request assistance in conducting the well
sampling.
If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Lagorio of my
staff at (209) 468-3449.
Jogi Khanna, M.D. , M.P.H.
Health Officer
on" a'linotiDirector
Environmental Health Division
RV:dmh
cc: Please refer to the attached list
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Cue Services
