Mr. Maurice Benson
October 24, 2008
Page 3
2. Soil gas results from Area 3 SVE site identify that two CPT locations exceed the
TCE cleanup standard in the vadose zone and correspond to localized VOC
concentrations in shallow groundwater of 5.7 pg/L and 25 pg/L for PCE and TCE,
respectively. According to the DDJC-Tracy Record of Decision, Section 9.6.5
states that vadose zone cleanup objectives are achieved when concentrations of
TCE and PCE in soil gas are equal to or less than the cleanup standard. DTSC
recommends that DESJC follow the ROD requirements for unsaturated soil
cleanup prior to recommending the site for no further action.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this letter, please feel free to contact
me at (916) 255-3713 or e-mail me at pmacnich(a.dtsc.ca.gov.
Sincerely,
/6
Peter MacNicholl, P.E.
Hazardous Substances Engineer
Sacramento Office
Brownfields and Environmental Restoration Program
cc: Mr. Mike Thomas
URS Corporation
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento, California 95833
Mr. Rich Howard
TechLaw, Incorporated
921 11th Street, Suite 502
Sacramento, California 95814
Mr. Michael Work (SFD-8)
United States Environmental Protection Agency
Region IX
75 Hawthorne Street
San Francisco, California 94195
