• 1
Mr. Marshall Cloud
April 18, 2006
Page 2
Comments
1.) Page 1, section 1.3, third bullet; States that a majority of the footprint of the NWC
plume is within the DDJC-owned property, thus allowing unlimited access
anytime of the year for that portion. Describe in the report how DDJC-Tracy will
gain access to portions of the plume which resides beneath the private property
adjacent to DDJC-Tracy if access is required for plume monitoring.
2.) Page 2, section 2.1.2, second sentence; States that DDJC-Tracy does not
posses any data to support the hypothesis that biodegradation is contributing to
the dieldrin loss in ground water at DDJC-Tracy. Until this degradation
mechanism is supported with site specific data, the report should not mislead the
reader into believing it is a readily occurring mechanism at DDJC-Tracy. Please
clarify that biodegradation at DDJC-Tracy has not been confirmed by quantifiable
scientific data.
3.) Page 4, section 3.1.3, last sentence; The statement that soil particulates in
ground water samples from the 2005 CPT investigation may have contained
sorbed dieldrin and biased higher concentrations of dieldrin in ground water
sample results is rather subjective and unsubstantiated. Include in the report
any technical reference material supporting the claim that soil particulates with
sorbed dieldrin have the potential to elevate diedrin results in ground water
samples.
4.) Page 4, section 2.2.3, last sentence; Please rephrase this sentence as it is
initially unclear to the reader as to whether the Kos in brackets is referring to
diedrin or trichloroethene.
If you have any questions or comments on this letter, please feel free to contact me at
(916) 255-3713 or e-mail at pmacnich(a)dtsc.ca.gov
Sincerely,
Peter MacNicholl
Remedial Project Manager
Federal Facilities Unit
