The well destructions are required to allow construction of wastewater storage ponds
at the facility. The following wells are proposed for destruction: MW-1,MW-2,MW-3, and MW-4.
Mr. Anderson stated that the well destructions would be performed in accordance with State and County
requirements. ft
Because the wells proposed for destruction are not part of the groundwater monitoring well network that
is required as part of Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 5-01-251, the Regional Board has no
objection to the destruction of the wells. However, because the wells are in an area where wastewater
will be stored, future access to the wells will not be possible, and further development of the area for
wastewater treatment is possible, the wells must be drilled out and sealed with a neat cement/bentonite
slurry consistent with San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division Well Standards Section
13.17.6. Pressure grouting the wells is not an acceptable means of well destruction in this instance.
Please transmit the copies of the completed San Joaquin County Drilling Permits describing the well
destruction when the work is complete. If you have any questions, please telephone me at
(916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
