A 10'piece of 4"
PVC is slip-fitted onto the well casing and extending upward to about 5' above ground with the original
casing cap on it. it appears the fonner ground surface is cleared around the original well grout that is
above that soil by 8-10 inches. the PVC coupling looks like it too is adequately up/above the former
grout and ground surface. I'm ok with the minimum clearances being met.
looks like all the 'destruction/construction'work is done. I see no need to jackhammer anything more. I
recommend a NEW, clean PVC 4" casing replace the construction grade one on there now. and a new
slip coupling too be added.
so, I'll accept the 36" concrete conduit for the formerly approved 12" sonotube. and the formerly
approved 2' X 2' X 4" thick pedestal will need to be expanded to cover the 36" diameter. I recommend a
4' x 4' x 6" thick form..maybe an 8" will be needed to cover the top of the conduit ?. the form for this
pedestal is to be installed around the top of the conduit BEFORE any grout is installed so that the grout
added inside it will be allowed to flow out and over filling the pedestal form...a monolithic pour. the
original traffic box can then be inserted into the hardening 10.3 mix of grout. (2 parts sand by weight to
1 part Portland cement weight and 5- 7 gallons potable water). Allow an adequate set time and the form
can be removed. I would have liked the conduit FLUSH with the surface, but it appears the City had an
input and the contractor had to set it up a bit. Their City...their rules and 'trip' liability.
looks like with new PVC and coupling, a pedestal form and a grout mix, this can be done...
questions???
From: Zac Crawford [mailto:zcrawford@engeo.com]
Sent: Monday, August 02, 2010 6:34 PM
To: Matthew Swanson; Mike Infurna [EH]
Subject: Re: RD-17 -Well Modification Detail
It had to happen this way Mike. They wait 9 months and then start while I'm on vacation. Please let me
know if there is any way I can help remotely.
8/5/2010
