13 February 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0298
According to a report entitled Summary Report-Potential Responsible Parties Search and Source
Im,estigations Lodi Groundwater Site, dated 20 March 1996, prepared by NIERI, the Lodi ground
water investigation encompasses the area bounded by Locke.ford Road on the north, Elm Street on
the south, Washington Street on the east and Pleasant Avenue on the west. The subject site is within
the investigation area.
The report entitled Lodi Phase 1 Remedial Im!estigation Report, Lodi Groundti -ater Site, dated 28
June 1994, prepared by URS Consultants, PCE and 1;1,1-trichloroethane (1,1,1-'rCA) --ere detected
in a soil gas samples collected from northeast of the site. The conclusions of the \'ERI report
detailing the passive soil gas surveys conducted on the edges of the site, are that PCE and 1,1,1-TCA
were constituents in soil vapor near the site. HON7ever, PCE has not been detected in water samples
collected from the City of Lodi domestic well number CNV-2, located southeast of the site.
It is our u,.derstanding that-Lhe site has been identified by the DTSC as a confirmed source for soil
contamination in the Lodi area. Specifically, during a previous City-wide ins°estigation,
concentration of PCE was detected in soil gas on-site. The DTSC is requiring the performance of
active soil gas survey at the site.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
3.1. COLLECTION OF SOIL GAS SAMPLES
In accordance with a directive from the DTSC, AGE will advance up to tNventy-flu-ee (23) soil gas
probe borings at the site. Seven probe borings NN7111 be advanced to total depths of 20 feet below
m
surface grade (bsg) and soil gas saples NN-ill be collected at depths of 10 and 20 feet bsg. A
minimum of fifteen additional probe borings will be advanced to a depth of 10 bsg and soil gas
samples will be collected at depths of 10 feet bsg. Soil gas probe borings will be established and
sampled based on field data and site accessibility.
Additional soil probe borings may be required to define the lateral extent of the soil vapor plume or
aide to limit the boundaries of the plume. If additional probe borings are required, the sampling
location will be approved of the DTSC, prior to additional work.
Soil gas samples will be collected from each probe boring and immediately analyzed for chlorinated
hydrocarbons (including PCE and TCE) and volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethyl-
benzene and total xylene: BTE&X). An on-site State-certified mobile laboratory will be used to
analyze each soil gas sample in accordance with EPA methods 8010 and 8020.
Upon completion of the investigation, a report will be prepared. It should be noted that field work
