Mr. James Barton, PG
24 April 2014
Page 3
I
OVERVIEW OF OFFSITE CHARACTERIZATION
Offsite characterization will consist of the following elements:
• Pre-Investigation activities;
III • Characterization of soil behavior e b CPT to a depth of approximately 130 ft b s and
h'p. Y p PP Y g
estimation of the groundwater elevation by pressure dissipation test at a minimum of two
locations;
• Collection of grab groundwater samples from, at a minimum, the water table (as
hydrogeological conditions allow), A-zone sand, and B=zone sand at each of the four
locations shown on Figure 25;.
• Installation, development, and sampling of three groundwater monitoring wells screened
across(1)first water,(2)the A-zone sand, and (3)the B-zone sand; and
• Analysis of VOCs by EPA Method 8260 and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel
(TPHd)by EPA Method 8015.
Pre-Investigation Activities
Prior to the start of field activities, Geosyntec will perform the following:
• Update the Site health and safety plan, as needed, in accordance with local, state, and
federal requirements;
• Obtain revocable permit and encroachment permit from the City of Stockton and drilling
permits from San Joaquin County, as required for CPTs, grab groundwater sampling, and
monitoring well installation;
• Confirm access and schedule with the residents and businesses adjacent to the sample
locations;
• Mark investigation locations; and
5 If the B-zone sample at a location exceeds the MCL for toluene(150 pg/L),deeper samples will be collected at
that location until vertical delineation to the MCL is achieved.
Offsite Characterization Workplan
engineers I scientists I innovators j
