This site was reassigned to me and is no
longer one of Frank Girardi's sites.
639 Clay Street
The site has two areas of contamination, one referred to as the "cluster UST" area to the north, and one referred
to as the "UST No. 3" area to the south.
In June 2006, four ozone sparge points were installed in the northern cluster UST area. In the nearly three years
of operation, it does not appear that the ozone system has been very effective in reducing the contaminant
concentrations. Furthermore, it appears that MTBE concentrations are increasing in groundwater collected from
MW-14B, located to the east of the cluster UST area. MW-14B is the only monitoring well screened between
sixty-five and seventy feet below surface grade (bsg). For this reason, our department believes two additional
monitoring wells are needed to delineate the plume, one to the east/northeast of MW-14B and one to the
northeast of the cluster UST area, both screened within the sand unit identified at approximately sixty-five to
seventy feet bsg.
In the UST No.3 area, groundwater collected from MW-1 and MW-2, both screened between forty and sixty feet
bsg, are highly impacted. Our department believes three additional monitoring wells are needed to delineate the
plume to the east and northeast of MW-1 and to the north of MW-8. All three wells should be screened within the
same hydrological units as MW-1 and MW-2.
Our department will also be directing a feasibility study be submitted to identify a remedial technology capable of
mitigating contamination in the UST No. 3 area, and will approve a reduction in the sampling schedule.
Vicki McCartney, Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
600 East Main Street
Stockton,California 95202
Phone: (209)468-9852
Fax: (209)468-3433
Email: vmccartncel d,com
5/6/2009
