The analytical results for total lead were consistent with the typical U.S.
Mean and typical Bay Area concentrations in soil as presented in Summary of Typical Metals
Concentrations in Soils and Surficial Materials, from U.S.G.S. Professional Paper 1270 for the
Conterminous United States. Analytical results of soil samples are summarized in Table 1.
I
4.2 Groundwater Contamination
Results of laboratory analyses performed on groundwater samples indicate that petroleum
hydrocarbons are present in the groundwater beneath the site. Groundwater samples SBI-W and
SB2-W contained detectable concentrations of BTEX, TPHg, and total lead. None of the
groundwater samples contained detectable concentrations of oxygenate fuel additives although
sample SB2-W had elevated detection limits due to high concentrations of non-target compounds.
Analytical results of groundwater samples are summarized in Table 2.
5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Analytical results for soil samples are generally consistent with field observations and PID
readings. Based on the analytical results of the soil and field observations, the soil beneath the site
appears to be impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. Based on the analytical results of the
groundwater samples, the groundwater beneath the site appears to be impacted by petroleum
hydrocarbons. Additional investigation activities appear to be necessary to delineate the vertical
and horizontal extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the soil and.groundwater.
i
wA14981\14981\-eports\p Woc 4
I
