Box 6066
Stockton, California 95206
Subject: Sarale Farms
16500 West Clifton Court Road
Stockton, California 95206
Dear Ms. Sarale:
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received and reviewed
No Further Action Required Report (report), dated 20 June 2012, submitted by your consulting
firm, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE), on your behalf for the above-referenced site. By
letter dated 10 January 2012, the EHD had directed that a site closure report be submitted to
this agency that included among other things, an estimate when groundwater would return to
water quality goals.
Although AGE did discuss concentration trends for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-g), benzene, methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), and 1,2-dichlorcethane (1,2-DCA) in
groundwater collected from historically impacted monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3, and
provided trend graphs showing this information in the report, AGE did not provide an estimate
when groundwater would return to water quality objectives. Please provide this information to
the EHD at your earliest convenience.
In the report, AGE stated that "Due to the shallow nature of the adsorbed hydrocarbon plume
and the location of the plume with respect to on-site buildings, there are potentials for vapor
intrusion to the on-site buildings. However, shallow soil samples collected during the
(underground storage tank) UST line removal, near the building, were non-detect or low in
concentration for petroleum hydrocarbons." The EHD cannot move this site to closure having
been informed that the potential exists for soil vapor intrusion from petroleum hydrocarbon-
impacted soil into existing on-site structures. The EHD must be confident that soil vapor
intrusion is not a significant issue at this site. Please provide data or a model to demonstrate
either the high or low threat posed by soil vapor.
If you have any questions concerning the information requested by the EHD, please contact
Vicki McCartney at (916) 488-4152 or by email at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
