Also, the WP should also
describe the procedure for the well destruction to be in compliance with the SJC code. The pressure grouting
shall be done by excavating a hole at least 1' larger than the diameter of the originally drilled hole to a depth of a
min. of 3' bsg (this shall include the conductor casing). Then cut the conductor casing and PVC casing 6"from the
bottom of the hole. Then pressure grout and allow the grout to cap/spill over 1' greater than the diameter of the
casing. The exposed casing shall be covered with at least 6"of grout and backfilled with native soil.
The wording for the SJC code for pressure grouting is noted below:
For the protection of the seal, and to facilitate the future use of the land site, a hole at least one foot
larger in diameter than the originally drilled hole shall be excavated around the outside of the well
casing to a depth not less than three feet below the ground surface. The well casing shall then be cut
off six inches above the bottom of this excavation and removed. During the sealing operation, the grout
used to fill the well shall be allowed to spill over into the excavation and fill it for a thickness of one foot
and form a cap which has a diameter of at least on foot greater than the diameter of the originally drilled
hole. This procedure should result in the exposed edge of the casing being covered with six inches of
grout. After the sealing operation and the sealing material have set, the excavation shall be back filled
with clean native soil.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
6/3/2008
