Previous use of this property included a
convenience store and gas station. Our files shows that two underground storage tanks (USTs)
were removed from the subject site in March 1993, and soil contamination was identified to 13 feet
below ground surface. The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (County) made
numerous requests to the previous property owner to investigate the extent of contamination.
However, that person filed for bankruptcy., and the property was abandoned. Based on the
abandoned status of this site, the County has referred the site to the Regional Water Quality Control
Board for regulatory oversight and enforcement.
We are concerned that contamination remaining in soils on your property may impact groundwater,
and cause neighboring domestic water supply wells to become contaminated. We would like to
discuss the soil contamination associated with the former USTs, and the process of soil and
groundwater investigation with you. Please call me at (916) 255-3115 at your convenience.
Marty Hartzell
Associate Engineering Geologist
cc: Ms. Margaret Lagorio, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division, Stockton
California Environmental Protection Agency
:'A Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
