TRACY LAND TREATMENT FACILITY 2 17 May 1991
INSPECTION REPORT
INSPECTION SUMMARY
Sample results for storage cells with high levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)
indicated the presence TPH as diesel with toluene and xylene being detected in the
soil . These cells should not be included with cells that are proposed for use as fill
below road base. Sample results for the cells with low levels of TPH (as motor oil )
indicate that no volatile components were present in the soil .
Based on the above results as well as previous sampling events, the use of soil with
low level of TPHs as fill below road base probably will not impact or threaten to
impact water quality. However, as stated in the HLA report, all personnel working in
the storage site or the proposed fill site should wear the minimum recommended Personal
protective equipment while working with the proposed fill material . Additionally, a
portable Combustible Gas Indicator or similar detector should used to determine
exposure to unhealthy doses of hydrocarbons. Another detector should be used to insure
that no soils contain containing volatile components are taken off site to be used as
road fill .
Robert A. Evans, Area Engineer
RAE
