showed contamination only in the stockpile samples. All contaminated soil removed and
stockpiled was remediated onsite using aeration and bioremediation.. Manure was mixed with the
soil and the entire mixture was turned periodically. This process continued for several months.
New samples were collected from the stockpiled soil on June 11 , 1997. The results were
received by the County on July 17, 1997 and a summary of the sample results is as follows:
CONSTITUENT SAMPLE TYPE RESULT(Mg/kg)
enzene Composite#1,2,3,4 Non Detect
thyi Benzene Composite#1,2,3,4 Non Detect
ethyl tert-Butyl Composite#1,2,3,4 Non Detect
oluene Composite#1,2,3,4 Non Detect
ylene Composite#1,2,3,4 Non Detect
As shown above, contamination has been reduced to 60 parts per million in one of the samples
(also see attached analytical reports). We believe this to be a level of non-concern.
It should be noted that all remedial operations including excavation and sampling were attended
by a representative from the Environmental Health Division of the San Joaquin County
Department of Public Health Services. It should also be noted that the sampling technique as well
as all sample locations were approved by the Department of Public Health Services representative.
Recommendation
1. Backfill the remediated soil in the same hole.
2. The SJCDPW requests that the LEA approve this Final Closure Plan and deem the site
closed in compliance with all applicable regulations.
S:\WES\CH\CLOSE\TANKCLOS.PLN
LA 21523
