L30600 S. Corral Hollow RAO
Exploratory Excavation Report
lie: 4
L2.1 Sou Sampling
L The general lithology of the excavation was logged under the direct supervision of
a registered professional using the Unified Soil Classification System. The color,
texture, moisture, plasticity (if applicable), consistency of the earth materials,
pertinent soil or bedrock characteristics, and any evidence of contamination was
noted(Appendix B).
All soil sampling equipment was thoroughly washed with TSP solution and rinsed
before and between sampling to prevent cross contamination. The laboratory soil
samples not have head space and were immediately sealed in their liners using
L aluminum foil lined plastic caps taped in place. The samples were then transferred
to an ice chest containing blue ice and transported immediately to North State
Environmental Laboratory under chain of custody.
L Laboratorysoil samples were analyzed using EPA method 351U/LUFT for diesel
P yz 8
L range petroleum hydrocarbons, EPA method 80.15 modified for total petroleum
hydrocarbons in the gasoline range and EPA method 8020 for BTEX compounds
&MTBE.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS
Groundwater is not expected to be encountered above 60 feet in depth in the Corral
Hollow Road area. The source of petroleum contamination has been removed from the
L subject property and the core of the contaminated soil has been excavated and is pending
treatment or disposal. Diesel was not detected in the soil samples obtained from various
depths of the excavation. Some gasoline and gasoline constituents were detected in low
levels. The deepest laboratory soil sample disclosed only 0.09 mg/Kg of Toluene, well
below State MCL and drinking water standards.
LBased on these findings, M.J. IGoberdanz & Associates believe that no further action at
this site is necessary. However, approval from the San Joaquin Department of
Environmental Health will be required to close the site.
L
The .above represents our best professional opinion as to environmental conditions at
this site. These opinions were derived using data at hand, and standards of care
common to the environmental consulting community in Northern California. There is
the possibility that even with proper application of the above methodologies, there may
exist on the subject property conditions that could not be identified within the scope of
this sampling work or which were not reasonably identifiable from the available
information. The methodologies included in this report are not intended to produce all
L
