L . I
Petroleum hydrocarbons have been detected in the groundwater around the dry well pad area
I at concentrations exceeding 1000 ppm (LLNL, 1994). Based on LLNL correspondence, no
L petroleum compounds have been detected from the debris burial trenches or from off-site
investigations. LLNL has successfully petitioned regulatory agencies to waive requirements to
Lanalyze groundwater samples for BTEX compounds (LLNL, 1995).
LSince June 1991, a groundwater treatment system has been in operation to remediate
groundwater in the area of the debris burial trenches. Contaminated groundwater is pumped
L (at --30 gpm), treated with an air sparger and discharged into Corral Hollow streambed. In
March 1992, a groundwater and soil vapor extraction and treatment system was also installed
at the former dry well pad. As of June 1994, the system was undergoing testing and
debugging (LLNL, 1994).
i
LO
L
LOW,
L
L
i
L
L
L
L
r
L
TETRA TECH:Castle Rock Forest Fire Station,Preliminary Site Assessment Report Page 6
