V
® INTERNATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
CORPORATION
February 12, 1991
FEB 13 '1991
Ms. Eleanor Ratl i ffe Ci-,v1 0NM@i ffALNrALH
Public Health Services 1'tRN;13lSE(2viCES
San Joaquin County
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
Dear Eleanor:
On behalf of BP Oil , IT requests approval to excavate limited amounts of
material from the two former UST pits at BP Oil Station No. 11192, located at
1403 Country Club Drive in Stockton.
Limited excavation would be performed in order to remove material which is
unsuitable for engineering and construction purposes. Specifically, loose
backfill (pea gravel and sand) . and native material which was dug up but not
removed from the pits during sampling (2/8/91) would be removed. It is
important to remove these materials so that a uniform, engineered backfill may
be placed to allow proper compaction and prevent settlement of pavement and
structures.
Excavation would proceed to a depth of 13 feet in each of the two former UST
pits. This is the depth at which samples of native material were taken and
materials above this depth consist dominantly of fill, and dug-up. native soil .
Materials removed from each of the two pits would be stockpiled separately,
both from each other and from any previously excavated soils. They would then
be sampled for disposal , as follows:
• From the fuel UST pit, for TPH-g and BTEX, one composite sample per
every 50 cubic yards.
• From the motor/used oil UST pit, for TPH-d and BTEX. Further
analysis to be -made if-any .detections. One composite sample per
every 50 cubic yards. .
It is estimated that 300 additional yards would be removed from the former
fuel UST pit and up to 200 additional yards from. the former oil UST pit.
Regional'Office
4585 Pacheco Boulevard.Martinez;California 94553•415-372-9100
IT Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of international Technology Corporation
