Camille
Tosco Marketing Company
2000 Crow Canyon Place, Suite 400
San Ramon, CA 94583
RE: Second Weekly Event of November 22,2000
Groundwater Purging and Disposal
Tosco (Former BP) No. 11192
1403 Country Club Boulevard,Stockton, California
Mr. Camille:
At the request of Tosco Marketing Company (Tosco), Gettler-Ryan Inc. (GR) has prepared this
report to document groundwater sampling, purging and disposal conducted for the subject site.
The work was performed in accordance the GR's Work Plan for Groundwater Purging and
Disposal, dated September 6, 2000, and with the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Division correspondence dated November 2, 2000.
Groundwater Purging and Disposal
On November 22, 2000, approximately 3,300 gallons of groundwater were removed from
monitoring well MW-3 by Onyx Industrial Services (Onyx) of Benicia, California. The
groundwater was purged directly from the wells into a Onyx vacuum truck and transported to the
Tosco Refinery in Rodeo,California for disposal.
Groundwater Sampling
Groundwater samples were collected from MW-3 prior to and following purging. A water
sample was also collected from the purged groundwater prior to its removal from site.
Groundwater samples are submitted under Chain of Custody for analysis at Sequoia Analytical
(ELAP # 1271). Groundwater samples are analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
Gasoline (TPHg) by EPA Method 8015, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by
EPA Method 8020, and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8260. The analytical
results for the November 22, 2000 sampling event are summarized in Table 1.
MTBE Mass Removal
The estimated mass of MTBE removed was calculated using the average the MTBE
concentration from the pre-purging (MW-3-PRE) and post-purging (MW-3-POST) grab
groundwater samples. Based on this average concentration, an estimated total of 3.16 pounds of
MTBE was removed from the site during the November 22, 2000 purging event. The estimated
MTBE removed, the cumulative MTBE removed, and the calculation method are presented in
Table 1.
6747 Sierra Court , Suite J Dublin , California 94568 ( 925 ) 551 -7555
