INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
In March, IT generated a work plan for the installation of three new groundwater monitoring
wells, two vadose wells and a soil vapor collection system. The work plan submitted to San
Joaquin County in March and implemented in April through August 1991.
Results of the investigation revealed that both groundwater and unsaturated soils had been
impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. Maximum hydrocarbon concentrations in soil were
encountered near the former fuel dispenser and piping locations and in the south wall of the
former fuel tank excavation. Distribution of hydrocarbons in groundwater is consistent with
the measured direction of groundwater flow.
In December, 1991, 1T was contracted by BP Oil Company to conduct a pilot study to
examine the applicability of soil vapor extraction (SVE) as a remedial alternative for
petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soils. IT was also contracted to further investigate
groundwater quality. As the groundwater phase of the investigation is on going, it will be
discussed under separate cover. The following report details SVE test methods, calculations
and conclusions.
IV#)03-10-92JUST)0WbIER 2
