RECENED
oCT 3 2006
ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
P6RMITISERVICES
Executive Summary
f
This site was a former service station and currently is a parking lot adjacent to retail shops. The
underground storage tanks and the gasoline dispensing system were removed in January 1989. Soil j
contaminated with gasoline was discovered at that time. To expedite the cleanup of this site and to
'`-roLect-the roundv-titer,-con-Taminatedsoihassocikted—with=the=form -su ink t er ens°in
P `gip g. _
system was removed, in February 2003. The excavation was backfilled with clean gravel and a
well (MW10) was installed for groundwater monitoring and if necessary removal from the
excavated area.
Pumping from well MWIO showed that a pump rate of 2 gallons per minute can capture the
contaminated groundwater that is associated with this site. An existing groundwater pumping and
water cleaning carbon system will be used to pump the groundwater from MW 10 and clean the
water to the City of Stockton's requirements prior to discharge of the water to the sanitary sewer
using the current sewer discharge permit. The only modification to the system will be the addition
of a sediment control aeration tank prior to pumping into the 91 water carbon unit. This tank will
prevent sediment fouling of the#1 carbon unit, help in the oxidation of the MtBE/TBA
contaminants in the groundwater and allow naturally occurring biodegradation to occur.
It is estimated that the pumping of contaminated groundwater from MW 10 will last 2 years to reach
cleanup goals that will be accepted by San Joaquin County Health.
i
k
