Appendix V
PH DMTER CALIBRATION PROCEDURES
(1} Calibrate the pH meter at least once per day, twice if
Possible. You will need:
Squirt bottle with distilled or reverse
osmosis water;
PH 7 buffer
PH 4 buffer
PH 10 buffer
Kimwipes- or- clean- paper towels
Bound notebook for recording pH readings
(2) Rinse the probe with distilled or reverse osmosis water.
Gently wipe any excess liquid from the probe.
(3 ) Place probe in pH 7 buffer. Let sit for about 2 minutes_
(4) Record pH_ Adjust meter to pH 7 with the calibration knob.
(5) rase the probe again with the squirt bottle. Place the
probe in pH 4 buffer
(6) Let it sit for about 2 minutes. Record the pH.
(7) Rinse the probe again,. Place the probe in pH 10 buffer.
(8) Let it sit for about 2 minutes_ Record the pH_
(9) Rinse the probe again and replace in the solution to be
analyzed.
Note: Use small bottles of buffer for everyday calibration. These
small bottles should be dumped once or twice every month_
The buffer that is used everyday will get cloudy and
contaminated_ When this happens. change the buffer_
10
