All sewer
discharge requirements were met. Treated groundwater discharge to sewer commenced
on April 8, 2005. Upon receipt of the April 29, 2005 analytical results the system was
shut down due to the presence of TBA in the effluent stream at 7.1 ug/L. A total of
230,314 gallons of treated groundwater had been discharged to the sanitary sewer clean-
out at the site. The number'one carbon unit was removed from the system and two new
carbon units were added (number 4 and number 5 positions). A sample of the effluent
was obtained on May 12, 2005 with no further discharge to sewer. On May 2':), 2005 a
revision to treatment system was submitted to your office discussing modifications to the
treatment system for removal of TBA. As of the above date, no comment has been
received. Until the revision to treatment system has been accepted by your department,
the treatment system will remain off and no discharge to sewer will occur, see Table and
Laboratory Reports attached to this report. Once Western Geo-Engineers has received an
approval of the treatment system revision a sample will be obtained of the effluent that
will discharge into a 55 gallon drum with no discharge to sewer. This sample will be
analyzed for pH (EPA 1.50.J), Total Petroleurri Hydrocarbons (EPA 418.1), BTEX,
MTBE, TBA, RIPE, ETBE and TANM (EPA 8260), Total metals Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni and
Zn (EPA 200), and Total Toxic Organics (EPA 624 and 625). Once the analytical results
are received, indicating that the revised treatment system effluent meets discharge
requirements, the pump and treatment system will be activated and sewer discharge will
commence.
