• FOURTH QUARTER REPORT
KWIKEE FOODS
2081.Country Club Boulevard
Stockton, California-
.January 5,2001
(EXECUTIVE SUMNLARV
Groundwater monitoring took place on December 11 2000. The depth to groundwater was
measured-with a water level meter after all seven wells were opened and allowed.to stabilize for
approximately 15 minutes. A battery-operated purge pump was used to purge the wells of standing
water, which was stored in DOT-approved drums on site. After purging, seven water samples were
collected in glass vials and-transported to the laboratory, where .they were analyzed for Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline,BTEX, and 5 gasoline oxygenates.
The groundwater flow direction`is to the northwest, after being to the north or northeast during
the previous quarter. In addition, whereas the gradient was not planar in the third quarter, a
relatively planar gradient at 0.0028 ft/ft was mapped in December. This is the first time that we
• have mapped a groundwater flow direction to the northwest.
Hydrocarbon concentrations remained quite low or below detection limits during the quarter. As in
the third quarter, concentrations are higher in two wells near the southwestern corner of the site,
adding further support to our previous suggestion that a plume of contaminated groundwater is
present southwest of the site. Groundwater monitoring since this investigation began in 1995 has
usually indicated an eastward groundwater flow direction, which would not explain migration of a
hydrocarbon plume to the southwest from Kwikee Foods. Rather, the present distribution of
hydrocarbons suggests that the plume originated off site to the southwest. Therefore, we
recommend that San -Joaquin County Public Health Services Agency, Environmental Health
Division review the data from both Kwikee Foods and the Chevron site.on the west side of Ftanktin
Street to determine whether the latter site is the source of contamination at the Kwikee Foods
property. If so, responsibility for further investigation at 2081 Country Club Boulevard should be
transferred to the owners of the Chevron site.
1
