Recently, Mr. Peters has resolved his financial difficulties and resumed investigation and
monitoring of the site. Upgradient monitored and sampled the wells on November 17, 1997.
3.0 MONITORING PROCEDURES
Upon arrival at the site, Upgradient personnel opened the wells and allowed them to equalize with
air pressure. Approximately 15 minutes after opening, the depth to groundwater was measured with
a Solinst water level meter. The water depths are shown in Table 1 and Appendix A.
A two-stage submersible pump was then used to purge the wells of standing water, which was
deposited in 55-gallon drums. During purging, the temperature, pH, and conductivity of the water
were measured at 2-gallon intervals with a Corning Checkmate meter until these parameters
stabilized (see Appendix A). To prevent cross-contamination, the pump -was washed in a TSF
solution between wells. The water samples were collected with a disposable plastic bailer and
placed in 40-m1 vials. The vials were labeled and logged, placed in a cooled ice chest, and shipped
under chain-of-custody documentation to McCampbell Analytical for analysis. The chain of
custody and laboratory report are included in Appendix B.
4.0 RESULTS
• ,.! IDs W"to Gro:er
Groundwater has risen since 1995 by as much as four feet. At the present time, the depth averages
approximately 12.5 feet. The elevation of the water table is slightly more than 10.5 feet below mean
sea level.
4.2 Groundwater Gradient
The data in Table 1 were used to calculate the groundwater gradient and determine the flow
direction, which are illustrated in Figure 3. The present gradient is N52°E' at 0.00178 ft/ft. Since
monitoring began in 1995,the direction has ranged between this and S72°E.
Groundwater elevation data were collected in August 1997 by Blaine Tech at the former Chevron
site across Franklin Street, and the gradient map constructed by Blaine Tech from that data also
indicates that groundwater flow is to the northeast, toward the Kwikee Foods site.
3
