Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, CA 95201 <br /> Re: 2103 Country Club Road, Stockton, CA <br /> Former Chevron Service Station #9-4054 �. <br /> Site Code-1780 <br /> Dear Mr. Pearson and Ms. Cotulla: <br /> Chevron requested in August of 1989, that it be removed as a responsible party <br /> for the above referenced site. That request was denied in December of 1989. New <br /> information has now come to light as the result of a phase-separated hydro-carbon <br /> "finger-printing" analysis performed by Chevron Research and Technology Company <br /> on samples of taken from the subject site. The results indicate that the phase- <br /> separated hydrocarbons that exist beneath the site are not products manufactured <br /> by Chevron. The sample tested contained no traces of Techroline, a Chevron <br /> additive. Polybutene succinimide detergent additive, an additive used by ARCO <br /> in its fuels, was detected. The sample contained some thermally cracked blending <br /> stock which is not produced by Chevron's Richmond refinery, the supply source for <br /> Chevron gasoline sold at the Stockton site. I am informed that thermally cracked <br /> gasoline is produced at ARCO's Carson refinery, which would be the source of ARCO <br /> gasolines sold in the Stockton area. <br /> I have enclosed a copy of the Report generated by Chevron Research and Technology <br /> Company. It is Chevron's position based upon this new evidence, that its former <br /> operations were not the source of the contamination which is now detected in the <br /> groundwater beneath the site. The physical and chemical characteristics of the <br /> sample tested are sufficiently dissimilar from Chevron's gasoline products to <br /> support the conclusion that the contamination can not be traced to Chevron's <br /> activities at the site.
