PHS-EHD cannot accept laboratory data that is non-detect when
detections limits are elevated above Tri-Regional Guideline
established values . PHS-EHD will consider Benzene to be present
in soils at MW-8 at 19' bgs somewhere between the acceptable
detection limit of 0 . 005 ppm and the elevated detection limit of
0 . 025 ppm until accepted laboratory data can verify otherwise .
A feasibility study was mentioned in your correspondence and PHS-
EHD would like to take this opportunity to remind you that
methods other than soil vapor/air sparging should be included
within your study. Please include financial and practical
rationale why other methods would not be acceptable for
mitigation of the secondary source of contamination (shallow
soils) .
The latest Quarterly Monitoring Report on file at PHS-EHD is for
the Third Quarter-1994 , the sampling date of August 15, 1994 .
Before any more drilling on or offsite may occur, both the Fourth
Quarter-1994 and the First Quarter-1995 Reports must be submitted
to PHS-EHD.
Please ensure that in the future, all previous Quarterly Reports
are on file with PHS-EHD before the site is sampled for the
current quarter. Please adjust your sampling schedule to allow
for Quarterly Report submittal to PHS-EHD by the 15th of the
month following the previous quarter. Permit issuance and
approval letters will be withheld until this requirement is
complied with.
Direct your submittals to Michael Infurna or any questions you
may have to (209) 468-3454 .
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Envilronment/aal Health
- Division
it
ic
Mhael Infurna, Senior REHS Diane M.
