The Pian discusses conducting a sulfate injection and land application pilot test to
address the on-site contaminant mass-source. The pilot test will include injection and monitoring
well installations, baseline sampling , periodic injections of sulfate solution, land application and
infiltration of sulfate, and associated performance monitoring . The objectives of the pilot test are:
1 ) Determine the site-specific hydrological and injection parameters necessary to design
and implement an injection-based treatment.
2) Test petroleum hydrocarbon treatment efficacy using sulfate-based anaerobic oxidation.
3Confirm intrinsic biogeochemical controls of secondary water quality.inclutding—sulfate
and sulfide generated as sulfur end products of microbial sulfate reduction .
The EHD approves the Plan contingent upon approval of the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) for the injections.
