Bulk Storage Container Inspection Fact Sheet July 2012 <br /> Facility owners with AFVO containers that meet the following criteria can conduct visual inspections of <br /> their containers when the following criteria are met: <br /> • Are subject to the Food and Drug <br /> Administration (FDA) regulations in §§112.12(c)(6)(11) <br /> 21 CFR part 110, Current Good For bulk storage containers that are subject to 21 <br /> Manufacturing Practice in CFR part 110, are elevated, constructed of austenitic <br /> Manufacturing, Packing or Holding stainless steel, have no external insulation,and are <br /> Human Food; shop-fabricated, conduct formal visual inspection on <br /> a regular schedule. In addition, you must frequently <br /> • Are elevated; inspect the outside of the container for signs of <br /> • Are made from austenitic stainless deterioration,discharges,or accumulation of oil <br /> steel; inside diked areas.You must determine and <br /> • Have no external insulation; and document in the Plan the appropriate qualifications <br /> • Are shop-built. for personnel performing tests and inspections. <br /> Records of inspections and tests kept under usual <br /> The owner or operator is required to document and customary business practices satisfy the <br /> the procedures for inspections and testing in recordkeeping requirements of this paragraph (c)(6). <br /> their SPCC Plan, including those for AFVO <br /> bulk storage containers that are eligible for Note:The above text is an excerpt of the SPCC rule.Refer to the <br /> full text of 40 CFR part 112. <br /> these differentiated requirements. <br /> In addition, when an AFVO bulk storage container falls outside the scope of an industry standard then <br /> the owner or operator may develop a site-specific inspection and testing program for the equipment that <br /> is in accordance with good engineering practice and documented in the Plan.
