San Joaquin Street
Stockton, California 95201-2009
Subject: Addendum to February 8, 1995 Soil Management Plan
Shell Service Station (WIC No. 204-7524-3505)
2575 Country Club Boulevard, Stockton, California
SJCPHS/EHD Site Code: 1223
Dear Ms. Meays:
Fugro West, Inc. (Fugro), on behalf of Shell Oil Company, is providing this Addendum
in response to a telephone conversation with San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD) on February 9, 1995. All work will be performed
according to the Fugro Standard Operating Procedures included as Attachment 1, except where
otherwise indicated.
OVER-EXCAVATION AND SAMPLING
Figure I shows the estimated extent of over-excavation after the underground storage
tanks (UST) are removed from the subject site. The estimated extent of the over-excavation.is
based on laboratory analyses of soil samples collected during investigations performed during
December 1994 and January 1995. The actual extent of the excavation will be determined by
field observations. The excavation is estimated to remain open approximately two weeks. This
may change where actual field conditions warrant. An estimated 700 to 1,000 cubic yards of soil
will be removed. Overexcavation will continue until no petroleum hydrocarbons are noted during
field screening by visual observation and with a photoionization detector (PID), or the boundaries
described in the February 8, 1995 "Soil Management Plan," are encountered. Confirmation
sidewall and excavation floor samples will then be collected. The sidewall samples will be
collected approximately every 20 feet at the base of the excavation above groundwater, if
encountered. Additionally, product and vent-line trenches will be overexcavated where necessary
and soil samples collected from the trench bottoms approximately every 20 lineal feet. All
samples will be collected under the direction of a County representative and in accordance with
the LUFT Manual and Tri-Regional Guidelines. Soil samples will be analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), as gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes
(BTEX), and total lead.
94478620.BAD A member of the Fugro group of companies with offices throughout the world
