PHS/EHD
has prepared the enclosed summary of the results for the August 29, 1997 sampling event.
The concentrations of most contaminants detected in the samples collected on August 29, 1997 were
greater than previously detected. The concentrations obtained directly from the well exceed maximum
contaminant levels established for drinking water and which are enforceable for public water systems.
PHS/EHD recommends that the water not be used for drinking or bathing purposes, especially since
there is a public water connection to your residence.
Your well will continue to be sampled by Shell Oil. Samples are desimated"Sample=1"when collected
directly from the well using a narrow bailer placed into the well via the chlorinating plug. Samples are
designated "Sample 42"when collected from the faucet out of the pressure tank. PHS/EHD has
recommended that Shell install or repair the sampling tap so that samples can be collected directly from
the pump rather than from the faucet out of the pressure tank. Once a sampling tap is available for use,
PHS/EHD will require that samples be collected directly from the well and from the sampling tap. Shell
may continue to collect a sample from the faucet to observe possible dilution effects of the pressure tank.
PHS/EHD will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available. Also, once PHS/EHD
has received a hard copy of the laboratory results, a copy will be forwarded to you. The faxed copy
which PHS/EHD has received is not completely legible and some results were confirmed by phone.
If you have any questions or comments, you can reach me at(209)468-0337 or Shell Oil's
representative,Alex Perez at(510)229-6103.
Donna Heran, Director,REHS
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Margaret'bhgorio, REHS -
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
enclosure
cc: Interested Parties List
A Division of San joaquin County Health Care Services
